Tyrone Association of Dublin to screen ‘The Irish Question’

The Tyrone Association of Dublin are preparing for a special event this Wednesday (May 8) in which they will welcome numerous political representatives and special guests for a screening of ‘The Irish Question’ – a documentary film that has been reviewed as ‘a provocative, poetic and cinematic meditations on the prospect of a united Ireland’.

The screening will take place in The Lansdowne Hotel on Pembroke Road at 7.30pm and will be the first official screening of the film since its premiere back in February at The Lord Mayor’s Gala at the Dublin International Film Festival.

Speaking with the Tyrone Herald, Anne Jones of the Tyrone Association of Dublin said, “My husband and I were invited to attend the premiere in February.

“The film addresses the prospect of the Reunification of Ireland – something Mary Lou McDonald has decalred ‘within touching distance’ following the restoration of the Stormont Executive – as it is edging closer and deals with the opportunities and challenges of a possible United Ireland with very considered serious opinions from a whole range of different voices.”

‘The Irish Question’ was directed by Alan Gilsenan and written and co-directed by Business Journalist John Walsh.

With unique contributions from the likes of Leo Varadker, Bill Clinton, Mary Lou McDonald, Mike Nesbitt, Monica McWilliams, John Major, Susan McKay, Bertie Ahern, Fintan O’Toole, Gerry Adams, Linda Irvine and Peter Mandelson amongst many others, ‘The Irish Question’ takes a fresh and surprising look at the dark trauma of the past and the unique possibilities of the future.

Mrs Jones explained what an honour it is for the Tyrone Association of Dublin to host such an event.

She said, “It is such an honour and a wonderful opportunity for us to have a private viewing of this extremely though-provoking film.

“The Association will welcome German Ambassador to Ireland Herr Meier Klodt, Former Lord Mayor of Dublin Councillor Nial Ring, and representatives from a few of the political parties as guests on the night.”

The Tyrone Association was set up in 1956 with the initial objective of connecting Tyrone people living and working in Dublin.

Mrs Jones further explained that, “On a personal level, when I first heard of the Association, I was keen to meet fellow Tyronians living in Dublin.

“It was a search for an identity, perhaps, and seeking a sense of belonging.

“In current times, for most members, it’s all about companionship, culture, heritage, and support.”
