A young snooker fan from Tyrone had a weekend to remember after potting an impressive trick shot live on television.
Nine-year-old Ben Robinson from Castlecaulfield impressed snooker legends as Ken Doherty and Shaun Murphy, when he attended the closing stages of the Masters final at Alexandra Palace in London on Sunday.
The schoolboy, who also got to witness his favourite player, Ronnie O’Sullivan, become the oldest-ever champion, stunned the crowd after potting an unintended trick shot live on television.
His proud father, explained that Ben wanted to watch some of the players attempt trick shots during the interval of the Masters final.
“We got quite close to the front and fellow Irishman, Ken Doherty invited Ben up to take the shot.
“The excitement when he potted the black ball was brilliant!”
Following the successful shot, Ben was so excited he even left the high-fives offered from Doherty and Shaun Murphy hanging.
Whilst Ben is a keen snooker fan, he also enjoys other sports such as gaelic, soccer and darts.
“He has a great interest in a lot of sport, but I suppose growing up there was always a snooker table at home, so Ben would play on a regular basis,” said his dad.
Brian himself is no stranger to the world of sport, and was part of the Tyrone panel which won the All-Ireland final in 2003.
Brian concluded, “Ben was very excited to get back to school today and see all his friends.
“He knows there has been a bit of a buzz since the live broadcast yesterday, and is loving all the attention he is getting.
“The tickets to the final were a present from Santa at Christmas, so aside from the excitement to have attended the final, the experience has been a great bonus for Ben!”
