Walkway damaged by vandals and litterbugs

A WALKWAY near Knockmoyle Forrest that has recently been earmarked for redevelopment has become a hot spot for anti-social behaviour and vandalism.

Lumford Glen was closed to the public because of safety concerns after parts of the pathways had become slippery and unsafe.

But Mid Ulster Council’s efforts to redevelop the area have been been hindered due to anti-social behaviour.

In recent weeks, the entry gate to Lumford Glen was smashed and motorbike and bicycle tracks have destroyed elements of the path.

A large amount of litter has also built up along the glen’s entryways.

Local Sinn Féin councillor, Eugene McConnell, has asked those responsible to ‘desist’.

He said, “These areas are incredibly important to the local community and should be used to enhance local life.

“This area has been earmarked for redevelopment and I hope it will become somewhere locals can really enjoy relaxing in and walking through.

“I would ask those engaged in anti-social behaviour at Lumford Glen to desist. It is very disheartening and annoying to see people treating their environment in this way. The only thing behaviour like this achieves is to damage the local area.”
