What do you need to vote?

WITH Tyrone set to go the polls this week, local voters are being encouraged to make sure they’ve got their appropriate details and identification with them so they’ll be able to cast their vote.

The majority of residents will have received their polling cards by now and it’s imperative that the voter brings identification with them to the designated centres.

Identification can include a UK, Irish or EEA driving licence, a UK or Irish passport, an Electoral Identity Card, a Translink SmartPass or a Biometric Immigration Document.

The Electoral Office for Northern Ireland recently confirmed that the identification doesn’t need to be current, but the photograph must be of a good enough likeness to confirm your identity.

Help and support will also be in place to help people who are visually impaired in the build-up to the UK General Election which is set to take place on Thursday, July 4.

The Electoral Office is providing a telephone service which reads out the candidates for each constituency in the order they appear on the ballot paper for the UK Parliamentary Election.

Visually impaired voters are permitted to use their mobile phone and the tactile voting device, magnifying glass or large print ballot paper example to help fill out their ballot paper on the day.

Also, voters are reminded that this for this election for the UK Parliament, mark a cross (X) against the candidate you wish to vote for and not a number.

If you make a mistake on your ballot paper, you can return it to the polling station staff and you will be issued with a replacement ballot.

However, if you make a mistake on your ballot paper and put it in the ballot box, a replacement cannot be issued by the polling station staff.
