Yellow weather warning for rain and wind in Northern Ireland

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and strong winds for the upcoming weekend.

Between 2pm on Saturday, January 14 and 3am on Sunday, January 15, high winds along with heavy rainfall is to be expected.

The Met Office have outlined a list of what s to be expected – urging the general public to prepare for disruption to journeys.

Westerly winds will increase across Northern Ireland during Saturday afternoon and evening, with gusts of 45-50 mph widely and 55-60 mph in the north.

Here’s a list of what to expect:

  •    Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer.
  •    Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer.
  •    Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely.
  •    Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.
  •    Flooding of some homes and businesses is possible.
