A DUNGANNON man who drove over 100mph on the motorway while under the influence of alcohol has been banned and handed a fine.
Appearing before Dungannon Magistrates Court was Darryl Mullan (28), of Kindrum.
The court heard that, on March 25, police were carrying out speed checks on the M1 when they observed Mullan driving at 104mph in a BMW car.
Police followed Mullan and noted that he was driving dangerously through heavy rain.
Upon stopping the vehicle, police could smell alcohol and said that Mullan’s speech was slurred.
Lost his job
Police carried out a breath test and Mullan gave a reading of 60 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, nearly twice over the legal limit.
He was conveyed to Dungannon custody suite.
A defence solicitor told the court that Mullan had previously worked as a car salesman but had since lost his job following the offence.
He was further described to the court as ‘a young man with a bright future’.
District Judge Francis Rafferty handed Mullan an 18-month driving ban and a total of £500 in fines.
