A good weekend just got better for Mountjoy after Tummery appeal dismissed

A good weekend for Mountjoy United Football Club just got better with the news that their outstanding Mulhern Cup quarter-final against Magheraveely can now go ahead following a decision by an Appeals Board to dismiss an appeal by holders Tummery Athletic.

Athletic had been thrown out of the competition for playing four substitutes instead of the regulation three against Derrychara United in a second round clash at Omagh Leisure Centre.

The Dromore side appealed that decision however the Appeals Board this morning confirmed that they had dismissed that appeal.

Given that Derrychara had already taken the decision to pull out of the Mulhern Cup, that now means that the Magheraveely versus Mountjoy United last-eight tie can go ahead on Saturday, April 9.

That will be viewed as a potentially great opportunity for David Rennie’s Mountjoy, who at the weekend claimed the Fermanagh and Western Division Two title by defeating Derrychara United 2-1 in their final game.

That triumph came less than 24 hours after the Lisnagirr Road club’s under-19s won the Brendan Keogh Youth League Cup by defeating Strathroy Harps 3-1.

The winner of the Magheraveely/Mountjoy clash will face Enniskillen Rangers in the semi-final while the other last four tie will be between NFC Kesh, victors over Strathroy Harps, and Augher Stars, who shocked top flight strugglers Irvinestown Wanderers after extra-time and penalties.
