BRACKAVILLE 4-14 CASTLEDERG 1-7
BRACKAVILLE produced a superb display of attacking football at Beragh on Sunday afternoon to win the Grade Four U16 Championship title when denying Castlederg the double at this level.
It was a contest that the young Roes were always in control off after hitting the ground running early on and they were well on their way to the silverware by halftime after establishing a 3-8 to 0-3 lead. The second half was a lot more even as Castlederg put in a tremendous shift to make their opponents work hard for the victory but the damage had been done.
Midfielder Corin McConnell opened the scoring from a free but that proved to be the only occasion that Castlederg would have their noses in front. Brackaville midfielder Sean Daly hit three superb points in a row before Cailum Coyle bagged the first goal of the afternoon in the 7th minute. It was a score that was a serious boost to Brackaville and they began to dominate.
James Gillis hit 1-3 with Ryan O’Neill and Keelan Heron before Coyle blasted an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net. Castlederg were in trouble and while they had the final two scores of the half from McConnell they had it all to do in the second half.
Ryan O’Neill scored from a free and from play on the restart for the winners but Castlederg hit back with a well taken Emmet Patton goal in the fifth minute. Defender Shea Leonard then got forward to split the posts but any thoughts of a comeback were extinguished when O’Neill got his side’s fourth goal of the contest.
A brace of McConnell frees was answered by efforts from play from Daly, O’Neill and Gillis before McConnell and Gillis swapped late points as the Roes emerged worthy winners.
Brackaville scorers – James Gillis 1-5 (2F), Ryan O’Neill 1-4 (1F), Cailum Coyle 2-0, Sean Daly 0-4, Keelan Heron 0-1
Castlederg scorers – Corin McConnell 0-6 (5F), Emmet Patton 1-0, Shea Leonard 0-1
