Busy Spratt remains on form off-season

IT may be the time of year when he would normally have his feet up as he recharges his batteries for the next season, but Omagh motocross ace, Lewis Spratt, is as busy and as successful as ever this winter.

The Omagh High School pupil collected his Irish Championship title prizes over the weekend and then travelled to England to pick up his new big frame big wheel 85 KTM, on which he hopes to enjoy even more success in 2023.

But prior to those busy two days, the teenager has been in fine form on two wheels at Todds Leap, Kirkistown, Gormanstown and Magilligan

Spratt’s first outing in November was at the final round of the Proride Enduro Championship at Todds Leap where he transferred his motocross skills to the tricky, lower speed off-road challenges with relative ease to win the youth section by some margin after around three hours of riding.

After that he raced in the Supermoto event at Kirkistown where he raced Ben and Alan Hall’s 85cc machine on the mixed surface event where he found his feet quickly, enjoying the experience of tarmac and the loose, bringing his lap times down by over 10 seconds over the course of the day.

He then ventured to County Meath for the 100-miler at Gormanstown where he teamed up with 250cc rider Charlie Irwin, from Ballyclare, and they won that outright for the second year in a row.

As well as those two events, Spratt has been competing in the newly launched Winter Motocross Championship at Magilligan where he has transferred his Irish title winning form to the coastal tracks where he leads his section by 42 points with one round to go on December 28th.

Once the WInter Series ends, Lewis will turn his attentions to the big stage of the UK Arenacross Tour for the third year. He will start his campaign in Belfast’s SSE Arena on January 20th and 21st before traveling to Aberdeen, Birmingham and finishing at Wembley Arena in London where he hopes to finish at least one place better than his fourth position in 2021.

After that Lewis would be forgiven for wanting a break, not that he’s going to get it as the British Championship gets underway just three weeks later!
