Calling all ‘Super Shels’ to 50th anniversary bash

A NIGHT of nostalgia has been organised to mark the 50th anniversary of the formation of Shelbourne Football Club.

The ‘Super Shels’ as they became known, was and still is the most decorated football club in Omagh.

Formed in 1972, the club rose rapidly through the ranks of the Fermanagh and Western League and from the early eighties to 2003 captured six Mercer League titles and clinched the Mulhern Cup four times. They were also crowned Top Four champions on four occasions and in 2003 annexed the Kennedy Cup.

Shelbourne also made its mark at intermediate level by winning the Northern Ireland Intermediate League in the mid eighties.

The club was forced to fold in July 2014, bringing to an end a glorious era of football in the town.

Now all past players, officials, supporters and others involved have the opportunity to reminisce about the glory years during what promises to be a truly memorable night of nostalgia in the Weigh Inn on Saturday, December 4.

The organising committee of Marty Woodhead, Eamon Campbell, Pam Devlin, Pat McNamee, Andy and Peter Hyndman extends an open invitation to everyone involved with Shelbourne over the years in marking the club’s glorious past.

The special occasion will include a display of memorabilia and selection of Pat McNamee’s famed videos charting the many highs and lows in the club’s colourful history.

This promises to be a night to remember and will end with music and dancing into the wee hours. Doors are open from 8pm, no charge. Further details later.
