Canning delighted as Dergview land dream draw against Glens

DERGVIEW boss Tommy Canning says being paired at home with Glentoran in the fifth round of the Samuel Gelston’s Whiskey Irish Cup was a dream draw for the north Tyrone club.

The Castlederg outfit will host the Glens on Saturday, January 8, an eagerly-anticipated cup-tie that could potentially draw a record crowd to Darragh Park.

Canning said he was delighted for everyone at the Lough 41 Championship club.

“It’s just brilliant, brilliant for the club, brilliant for the local area and a great occasion for the players to be involved in,” he said.

“It’s not very often you get the opportunity to play against full-time teams in a competitive environment.

“At home to Glentoran means we can approach the occasion with zero pressure.

“We have a number of games to play before that which are far, far more important in many respects and then we’ll worry about the Glens and prepare the best we can.

“But yeah it should be a great day for the club.”

Dergview’s neighbours Ballinamallard United were drawn at home to Ards Rangers while Dungannon Swifts travel to Knockbreda,
