FRUSTRATED Tyrone hurling captain Chris Kearns has urged Tyrone GAA chiefs to get their skates on and install a management team, preferably led by Mattie Lennon, for the upcoming season.
Feargal Logan and Brian Dooher were announced as the new Tyrone senior football managers 11 days ago, but the hurling post remains vacant and that’s something that rankles with Kearns, who can’t help but think that the hurlers are playing second fiddle to the footballers.
Kearns, a native of Antrim hurling stronghold Dunloy, says that Mattie Lennon’s reappointment should be a formality, citing his sterling work for the county over the last three years and beyond.
“It just seems to be the way of things. I know the footballers have won three All-Irelands, but until they start putting the same resources into hurling they’re never going to get anywhere, and the players aren’t going to feel encouraged to keep at it,” he said.
