Carrickmore’s Munroe wins big in the States

CARRICKMORE’S Clodagh Munroe has captured the Ladies Open title at the 71st USHA National Collegiates Championships in Minneapolis.

Last year Clodagh was the first ever lady from the North to receive a scholarship in USA where she now represents Minnesota State Mankato Handball Club.

She is currently participating in all the pros tops and has gained herself high ranking status.

Twenty five Irish representatives from 10 colleges throughout Ireland travelled out to compete in this tough competition.

In the Men’s Open grade it was Wexford’s 20-year-old Mark Doyle, who also accepted a scholarship at the same time as Clodagh in Mankato University, who took top honours.

The remarkable achievements of Doyle and Munroe helped secure a ‘clean sweep’ for the first time ever in the college’s history as the team also secured the team title.

It was a very successful and deserving end to the tournament for both players as they work extremely hard at both their sporting and educational careers. Everyone wishes them continued success in all future competitions.
