CBS winner Teague reflects on a proud day for Dromore

DROMORE lad Oisin Teague wasn’t part of the Omagh CBS squad that won last year’s MacRory Cup title, but he was determined to work his way into the team and the rest, as they say, is history.

He nailed down a place in the half-forward line and was pleased as punch with the way things transpired last Sunday as Omagh CBS retained their title with a six-point defeat of St Patrick’s Dungannon.

Teague, one of seven Dromore representatives on the panel, said: “It’s unbelievable, you go out in September to try to make the squad, and once you do that your set your eyes on the prize and thankfully we’ve got over the line.

“It’s been a serious effort from all involved, we all turn up and there’s nobody giving 50 percent, it’s all 100 percent, and that’s a testament to the squad we have.”

The Brothers were steeled with hard-fought knock-out victories en route to the final, claiming one-point victories in their quarter-final and semi-final wins over Castleblayney and St Mary’s Magherafelt. They could also call upon a sizeable cohort of last year’s team that landed honours at Hogan Cup level, so they knew the title was theirs for the taking.

“We were very confident, we’ve so many boys from last year with the experience of winning.

“We got over the line in the quarter and semi-finals by a point, so we knew we had the character and would be able to withstand what Dungannon threw at us.”

It was a red letter day for Dromore with so many lads on the panel, and Teague made sure to thank the coaches who have brought him through the ranks at club level.

“I’m sure the club is proud and it’s a testament to the coaching we’ve received. We came up a bit short at minor level so it’s great that we’ve won this one.”
