Clinical Tyrone camogs hold Louth scoreless

Tyrone 5-13   Louth 0-0

TYRONE breezed into the Division Four National Camogie League Final with little fuss as they completed a whitewash of Louth at Ballinamullan on Saturday.

Unbeaten this season, Tyrone dominated the tie. They were clinical in attack and never in any danger in defence as Bronagh Barker controlled the backline and Eimear Colton’s expertly-placed clearances added to their potency driving forward.

Lara Devlin, Cara Little and Lauren Fitzgerald were excellent, while Rosin McErlean and Reagan Fay directed operations.

The Red Hands also made extensive use of their bench over the hour in what was a worthwhile exercise.

Louth goalkeeper Mairead McMahon made several key stops through the game but could do little as Tyrone hit four first half goals.

The first from Devlin came just four minutes in, with the initial shot turned away. Devlin and Little added points and the juggernaut rolled on when Fitzgerald spun away from her marker for a second goal.

The visitors tried hard to break the line but, despite pressing, Tyrone dominated. With ease, they set up attack after attack.

Points from Kaitlin Gallagher and the tireless Devlin had Tyrone ten clear by the second quarter.

Little and McErlean had goal chances dealt with but, by the break, they were 4-7 to no score up.

McErlean added a brace of points with goals from Little, completing a great run and Fitzgerald bookending another Little point.

The one-way traffic continued into the second half. Louth attacks were non-existent as Fitzgerald opened the half with Tyrone’s fifth goal.

They were free-scoring in that key quarter, Gallagher, and three from Little had them 5-11 up before they rang the changes.

The Tyrone dynamic certainly changed with the replacements. There was less potency about the attack and while they only managed two further points, Louth still struggled to get the ball and a very assured Tyrone defence remained unbeaten.

McErlean and Fay were on target in the final seven minutes with Fay’s score completing the whitewash.

Tyrone face Wicklow now in the league final on April 13 and, on current form, they will certainly start favourites.
