Cup final hero in talks with Dungannon

Dungannon Swifts’ 2018 League Cup hero Ryan Mayse could be set for a return to the Tyrone club.

Mayse and Ballinamallard United team-mate Matty Smyth have both held talks with Swifts after they were given permission to do so by the Championship club.

Mallards boss Harry McConkey revealed on Monday’s Ulster Herald Boot Room podcast that a Premiership club had been in touch seeking to talk to two of their key players.

Last week Swifts confirmed that Dylan King had been ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury and Smyth would been seen as a direct replacement for the towering centre-back.

Newtownstewart man Mayse, whose stunning brace helped Dungannon Swifts defeat Ballymena United 3-1 in the 2018 BetMcLean Cup Final, would bolster an attack that has scored just eight goals in 12 games.

In Monday’s Boot Room podcast, available on this website, McConkey said that with little prospect of football in the Championship in the near future it was inevitable that Premiership clubs would come looking for players.
