DERGVIEW and Ballinamallard United both climbed the Lough 41 Championship table following impressive home victories at the weekend.
Defender Lee Warnock scored his first goal of the season as the Mallards came from behind to defeat Knockbreda. Josh McIlwaine and Reece Byrne were both on target as well to send the Ducks second with 35 points.
Dergview meanwhile moved up to seventh with 28 points following a 2-0 win at home to Ballyclare Comrades.
Following a low-key first half the Derg men produced a scintillating second 45 minutes to secure their eight win of the season thanks to a Cathal Farren penalty and a sublime finish by Mattie Kirk.
Next weekend Dergview visit Knockbreda and the Ducks go to Institute before both local rivals turn their attention to what promises to be another big Boxing Day showdown at Darragh Park.
That’s for another day though. Derg boss Tommy Canning is looking no further than ‘Breda following Saturday’s deserved win.
“The boys put in a great shift in the second half,” he said
“The attack for the penalty was a great move. Comrades were looking to push, we were looking to counter and that suited us down to the ground with the extra legs. Kirky’s finish was sublime.
“The boys are buzzing, they feel the pressure of delivering and today they delivered.”
