Derg boss to make changes despite winning start

FOLLOWING their contrasting opening day fortunes Dergview boss Tommy Canning has dismissed any suggestion that his team would be favourites going into tomorrow (Tuesday) evening’s derby clash against Ballinamallard United.

On Saturday Canning’s new-look side produced the eye-catching result on the opening day of the Lough 41 Championship season with the 5-0 thumping of north west rivals Institute at Darragh Park with braces apiece from Benny Igiehon and Jamie Browne and a stunning strike from Matty Kirk.

The Mallards on the other hand slumped to a 5-1 defeat at Ballyclare Comrades. The Fermanagh visitors took the lead through Daragh Byrne but thereafter it was all downhill for the Ducks.

McConkey will now have to lift his troops for the visit of Derg men while opposite number Canning has warned his players to get their feet back on the ground for what will be another tough assignment. He also said he would be making changes for the trip to Ferney Park..

“There’ll be changes for Tuesday, both to the squad and the starting 11. It’s a different game and we have to make changes. It’s the first week and we have three difficult games.

“Ballinamallard  got stung on Saturday, they’ll want to be put that right and we have to be up for that challenge.”
