IVAN Sproule admitted his players were understandably ring-rusty when they returned to action with a 1-0 friendly win over PIL opponents Banbridge Town on Saturday.
A stunning Mattie Kirk free kick was all that separated the sides at the final whistle with Sproule describing the performance against Stuart King’s side as “solid”.
“The boys have been out of football for a long, long time and the things we’ll be be asking of them won’t just come naturally again,” said the former Northern Ireland international.
“What I would say is that things we worked in training Tuesday and Thursday until Saturday there has definitely been improvements.
“We are nowhere near where we want to go but that’s the situation we find ourselves in. The one thing I asked of the players was the clean sheet and to be solid and that pleased me. But going forward there is plenty to work on in a short space of time.”
