Dergview to contest showpiece decider

DERGVIEW Football Club could end the year 2020 on a high by lifting the North West Senior Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

The showpiece decider has been pencilled in for Monday, December 28 and the Castlederg men will play the winners of the outstanding semi-final between Limavady United – quarter-final victors over Ballinamallard United – and Institute.

Ivan Sproule’s Derg men reached their second successive North West Senior Cup Final by defeating Maiden City 5-0 and Premiership outfit Coleraine 2-1 in the last four.

Sproule said the final was an occasion for the club to look forward to and he hoped that supporters would be allowed to attend the game.

“I think I’m right in saying that bubble for families ends on December 28 so hopefully that means we can have some supporters,” he said.

“I suppose we don’t know for sure but I’d imagine that may have been one of the reasons it is being played on that day.

“It would be nice for both teams if supporters were allowed to attend, even if there was a limit put on the gate.

“The venue will be decided after the other semi-final but it will obviously have to be a venue to meet the criteria to keep everyone safe.”
