TYRONE secured their top flight status following a vital win over Monaghan on Saturday night.
That victory, combined with favourable results from the other top flight clashes at the weekend, ensured that Tyrone will be competing Division One football for 2025
But it was nerve-wrecking for the Red Hands as they held out to defeat Monaghan by 1-19 to 2-13.
Kerry’s win over Roscommon Sunday then ensured the Division One place for 2025 for the Red Hands..
It means that there will be a degree of pressure off the players as they prepare for the trip to Croke Park next Sunday, to take on All-Ireland champions, Dublin.
Joint team manager, Brian Dooher, was delighted with the result and a fine performance.
“To be truthful, we were thankful for the final whistle in the end-up,” he admitted.
“We showed a bit of character and you have to give credit to a lot of the younger players because they came here and put the shoulder to the wheel.
“There was some superb football in the game. I suppose you have to give Monaghan credit because they are no bad side. They were fighting for their lives just like us.”
Tyrone led by seven points at one point early in the second half, before being pegged back. The visitors searched hard for an equalising point, before the Red Hands sealed a memorable win to boost their total on the Division One table.
“It looked like we were going to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory at one stage. But thankfully we held on,” concluded Dooher.
