F&W official says season will be under constant review

FIXTURES secretary of the Fermanagh and Western League, Malcolm McVitty admits that the season will be under constant review following the recent suspension of games brought about by renewed restrictions due to the escalating coronavirus crisis.

The Northern Ireland Executive’s decision to shut down all sport except that considered ‘elite’ level for four weeks led to the cancellation of the entire Fermanagh and Western League programme last weekend.

Players are going to be left kicking their heels for a further three weekends and with the season beginning a month later than usual fixture congestion later in the season is almost inevitable.

Certainly any further disruption beyond the latest suspension of games will prove problematic for the local governing body and their member clubs.

Mr McVitty insists the league will have to follow the guidelines and regulations in place at any given time and adapt accordingly with the ultimate goal of completing the programme of fixtures.

“It’s looking like it’s going to be a struggle for any level of football, “ the F&W official told this week’s Boot Room podcast now available on the Ulster Herald website.
