F&W over – no relegation, Tummery could be D1 champs

There will be no more football played in the Fermanagh and Western League this season.

And Tummery Athletic could be declared Division One champions for the first time in the club’s history if the Irish Football Association ratifies the decision taken by member clubs to decide final league positions by using a points average formula.

However this method will be used to determine promotion only and the awarding of trophies but not relegation.

When clubs were balloted on whether or not they wanted to resume playing they voted against by 24 votes to 16.

The decision on how to finish the season wasn’t quite so clear cut. Thirteen clubs opted for null and void, twelve voted for using average points per game with promotion and relegation and 15 decided on points average with promotion only.

In announcing the decision league secretary Ciara Crawford thanked all clubs for their cooperation and emphasised that the decision taken by clubs would have to be ratified by the IFA.

“I shall be informing them of our proposal as to how the Fermanagh and Western League have voted to conclude our season and if/when they accept out descision, I shall contact the relevant clubs regarding the presentation of trophies.”
