GAA needs to punish transgressors says ex-Tyrone star

FORMER Tyrone star John Lynch feels that the GAA need to come down hard on the Dublin squad members who broke the training ban last week- though he cautioned that they aren’t the only transgressors across the country.

The six in a row All-Ireland winners made headlines when a group of players were photographed taking part in a collective training session early on Sunday morning – with their manager Dessie Farrell subsequently suspended for three months by his own Dublin County Management committee.

However Castlederg great Lynch feels that the GAA itself needs to investigate the matter and the circumstances behind the nine players decision to breach Covid regulations which ban all inter-county training sessions until Monday April 19th at the earliest.

“It’s just plain stupidity if you ask me. Were these players put under pressure by the management team to come together and train? If so then Croke Park need to come down hard on them. At the end of the day they were told not to do it but they’ve been caught red handed,” he said.

“But let’s get real here. There are loads of teams- club and county- now holding these collective training sessions behind closed doors. Unfortunately for them the Dubs have been caught but I know for a fact there is more than one county at it.”
