ULSTER University claimed the Sigerson Cup title in style last Wednesday night as they claimed a 3-12 to to 0-15 victory over UCD, and something that hasn’t gone unnoticed was the considerable influence of Tyrone footballers on their success.
There are 13 Tyrone-based players on total on the squad, including seven starters on the night, while Ardboe’s Benny Hurl and Brackaville man Paul Rouse are central figures on the management team.
Darragh Canavan won the official man of the match award with a performance that oozed real class, scoring five points from play. Younger brother Ruairi chipped in with four points, while Killyclogher midfielder Oisin McCann was immense throughout, contributing a first-half goal and making a brilliant fetch at the back when Ulster University pushed for home.
Others starting last Wednesday night were Ciarán Daly (Trillick) Peter Og McCartan (Errigal Ciaran), Conor Cush (Donaghmore), Steve Donaghy (the Moy) while named among the subs were Dara Curran (Loughmacrory), Danny Fullerton (Carrickmore), Eoin Montgomery (Drumragh) Adam Donaghy (the Moy) and Dungannon duo James Quinn and Harry Morgan.
