Glebe United……………………………………………….9
Limavady Rugby Club…………………………………..1
GLEBE United maintained their interest in the second division promotion race with a thumping victory over Limavady Rugby Club at Bellspark Road.
Braces apiece by Eamon McGrath and Brian Sweeney laid the foundation for victory with Aaron McNamee, Matthew Campbell, Ciaran Lafferty and Ryan Devine also weighing with goals which leaves United well placed for a tilt at promotion in the second half of the season.
The North Tyrone outfit is currently placed sixth with 21 points from 11 games, just two points behind neighbours Sion Swifts but with three games in hand.
Club stalwart Marcus Kirk, while admitting Glebe are currently off the pace in terms of promotion, didn’t rule his team out forcing themselves into the shake-up by the end of the campaign.
“Saturday was pretty much one-sided and to be honest that wasn’t unexpected,” he said.
“There is still the very real possibility of forcing our way into the play-off picture. The top teams all have to play each other and one or two of them still have to come to the Glebe.
“Having said all that this season has been a learning experience for us since moving from the Fermanagh and Western. We now know the standard that is required and that will help us next season. We have had some great results this season and that included defeating the likes of Donemana and Claudy Rovers of the Premier Division.”
Maiden City Reserves and Claudy United currently lead the way in Division Two on 28 points.
Tomorrow, Glebe travel to basement boys Lincoln Court Reserves.
