Glens boss on matchwinner McDaid’s progress

GLENTORAN boss Mick McDermott believes that if Robbie McDaid continues to improve that full-time clubs on the other side of the Irish Sea will sit up and take notice.

McDaid returned from a spell in England after signing for Leeds United as a teenager to join Glentoran in 2017. He has been slowly but surely rebuilding his career and before the current season had been cut short because of the coronavirus pandemic had netted 20 goals.

Friday’s night’s sensational winner in the Irish Cup Final again underlined his improvement and credentials as one of the top strikers in the Irish League and McDermott says the Omagh man needs to build on that next season again.

“Robbie scored 20-21 goals for us this season, next year he has to be going for 25-30 and keeping up the ante on himself,” the Oval supremo told the Herald.

“If he were to do that then it would be hard for a team not to have a look at him.”
