Hyland scores record-breaking 63 at Omagh

JORDAN Hyland has enjoyed many memorable rounds in his short, yet illustrious, golfing career, but few will be remembered quite as fondly as his bogey-free course record-breaking 63 at Omagh Golf Club on Saturday.

Playing in the Bowes Brothers-sponsored competition, Jordan fired in eight birdies and 10 pars en route to a sensational eight-under-par total that beat Nial Kearns’ previous best around the Dublin Road course, set in 2006, by two shots.

Sensationally, had it not been for a couple of lip-outs and near misses, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Jordan’s round at the weekend would have been even lower, perhaps even breaking the holy grail of 60 for the first time.

As it was, though, he had to settle for a round of 63, which he was only to glad to given the fairly tricky conditions on the day and because he was able to prove to himself that his first year as a golf scholarship student at Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia hasn’t just helped his golf game, but also his mental strength.
