Johnston and Solberg shortlisted for award

AARON Johnston and Oliver Solberg enjoyed a season to remember behind the wheels of their R5 Vokswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, in which they clinched the Junior European Rally Championship title.

They also shone on the biggest stage, in the World Rally Championship, where, despite being in less powerful R5 machinery, they were regularly in the overall top 10.

And because of one stunning performance on the first stage of Rally Italia Sardegna – Tempio Pausania – they have been shortlisted alongisde Thierry Neuville, Kalle Rovanperä and Dani Sordo for the WRC’s Anonimo Timing Feat award, which you can vote for on www.wrc.com.

“We’re the only R5 car that has been nominated against Kalle, Thierry and Dani, so to get the recognition in the tier two car, it’s definitely quite special so hopefully the people can get behind us and support us and we’ll add one more award to what we have achieved in 2020,” beamed the Fintona co-driver, who along with Solberg has signed a multi-year deal with Hyundai Motorsport which begins in January.

Solberg and Johnston’s stunning Rally Italia Sardegna start is certainly worthy of not only being nominated for the accolade, but of winning it.
