Lecky targeting starting berth

HAVING scored his first goal for his new club Crusaders, Adam Lecky admits his next objective is to try and force his way into the starting XI at Seaview.

 

The towering Castlederg man came off the bench in Friday’s evening’s big clash with Linfield at Windsor Park and breathed new life into the visitors’ challenge by heading home a Michael Ruddy cross to make it 2-1.

 

That set up a grandstand finish but the Crues couldn’t find an precious equaliser to cancel out earlier goals by the Linfield pair of Andy Waterworth and NialI Quinn.

 

Lecky was delighted to get off the mark this early in the season and felt that on the night his new team didn’t quite get what they deserved against the champions.

 

“Of course it was nice to come off the bench and make an impact,” said the former Dergview and Ballinamallard United player.

 

“Linfield are the champions, they have strengthened in the summer and they are still the team for everyone to beat. We knew Friday night was going to be a big ask, it’s the toughest fixture on paper but there were plenty of positives in our performance.

 

“Over the 90 minutes we gave them a good game and we can take heart from the performance. For the first 20-25 minutes both team stood off each other a little and it could be argued that Linfield scored against the run of play.

 

“We put them under a lot of pressure late on and could have snatched an equaliser but ultimately the result was disappointing.”
