Omagh author celebrates the art and joy of goalscoring in new book

We all have our favourite goalscorers! Most Liverpool fans will list the likes of Ian Rush, John Aldridge, Kenny Dalglish, Roger Hunt and Robbie Fowler among the best in the business while Man United supporters hail Denis Law and Andy Cole as two of the greatest marksman the game has ever seen.

Of course there are numerous others who have perfected the art of goalscoring through the decades. Think Dean, Greaves, Charles, Lofthouse, Latchford, Linekar, Bull, Shearer and ‘Supermac’ himself, Malcolm MacDonald who by the way started life as a full-back!

That’s just one of the many interesting facts included in a new book entitled ‘50 Greatest Goalscorers’ in the history of British football.

It’s author is Omagh man and Fermanagh native, Neil Beacom, who has meticulously compiled and skilfully written a well-researched and factual account of some of the greatest goalscoring legends the game has ever known.

Included are scoring greats spanning three centuries, from the founding and inter-war years right through to the Premier League era.

Beacom, who is employed by the NHS and who also works in ASDA Omagh, describes himself as a long-time matchday going football supporter. He has spent many hours researching the book and his passion and enthusiasm for the subject matter shines through the final product.

Approximately three pages of the book are dedicated to each of the 50 legends profiled, starting with Derby goal king Steve Bloomer who netted 352 times in 598 league games and ending with Ian Wright who registered 324 goals in all competitions for a number of clubs including Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

The book features detailed player goalscoring records for club and country – games played, goals scored – and pays homage to the many types of goalscorers including the sometimes-forgotten unsung heroes.

This book essentially celebrates the art and joy of goalscoring!

‘50 Greatest Goalscorers’ is published by Big VMac in conjunction with WRITERSWORLD and is produced entirely in the UK.
It is available to order from most bookshops in the United Kingdom and is also globally available via UK-based Internet book retailers.
