A CELEBRATORY assembly was held this morning for the Hogan Cup-winning team from Omagh CBS with the entire school community in attendance to acknowledge their latest success.
Diarmaid McNulty and Ciaran McBride’s side entered the history books as the first ever Tyrone school to claim back-to-back Hogan Cups with a stunning victory over Kerry school Mercy Mounthawk just over a week ago.
The footballers at the school who recently won the Oisin McGrath title under the management of Conor McFlynn and Pat McNabb were also honoured at the ceremony in the school’s sports hall.
School Principal Foncy McConnell paid tribute to both teams for their winning endeavours on the field of play, emphasising that hard work behind the scenes was the catalyst for their success.
“I want to congratulate the players on ther success, and while I know it means a great deal for the players and management, it also means so much for their clubs and parents.
“Hogan Cups are extremely rare and now this team have made history. The Oisin McGrath team have now won the Dalton, Corn na nÓg and Oisin McGrath, and that shows the calibre of team they are as well.
“Success does come with a sacrifice and the Hogan Cup panel had 70 sessions and 14 games including challenge matches since September. They trained over Halloween and Christmas and every Saturday morning and now they’ve finished the season undefeated.”
