Andrew’s going solo during first British series assault

THIS year might have been a bit of a disaster for most local short circuit riders, who have seen their plans left in tatters as Covid-19 forced race organisers to rip up their schedules, but every cloud brings with it a silver lining, as the old saying goes.

And that is certainly the case for one of the Cairns twins from Seskinore. At the start of 2020, 23-year-old brothers Andrew and Nathan had bought two new 600cc bikes and they were preparing to move up the ranks in the Ulster Superbike Championship before the pandemic forced them to shelve those ideas.

With their racing careers seemingly on hold, Nathan decided he would also sit out 2021 in order to rest a troublesome shoulder issue, while Andrew, thanks to the backing of an as yet un-named sponsor has been given the chance to move into the British Superbike Championship ranks next year when he will race in the Pirelli National 600 Superstock support series.

“I got the opportunity from a new sponsor who has come on board,” Andrew explained. “He gave me this opportunity and I’d be stupid not to take it.

“It’s an opportunity I can’t pass up and it’s one I’m really looking forward to.

“This is something that’s been on my bucket list, I always wanted to do one round but I never thought I’d get the chance to do a full season at it.”
