Quartet of F&W teams into the last 16 of the fonaCAB Irish Junior Cup

TWICE winners Strathroy Harps and beaten 2019 finalists Tummery Athletic both registered five goals apiece en route to the last-16 of the prestigious fonaCAB Irish Junior Cup on Saturday.

Harps, helped by a Tommy Murphy brace, defeated fellow Fermanagh and Western outfit Drumquin United 5-1 while Ryan Hanna’s Athletic ran out 5-0 winners over Killough at Omagh Leisure Centre.

A Chris Crilly goal had Tummery a goal up at the break but the hosts went to town in the second half. Ruairi Sludden doubled the advantage before Aidy McCaffrey scored the goal of the game by chesting the ball down into his path and arrowing it over the visiting keeper from 45 yards.

Gary Lynch then came off the bench to tee up strikes for player-manager Ryan Hanna and Martin Hughes.

At Strathroy Road Harps were home and hosed at the half-time interval.

Darren Teague marked his return to the club by opening the scoring and, after Sean McDonagh had levelled for Drumquin, Murphy grabbed his first with a diving header.

Joe Smith dashed in from the left to make it 3-1 and a Mark Sloan penalty had all but ended Drumquin’s challenge by the break.

Compared to the first 45 minutes, the second half proved a low-key affair with Murphy grabbing a second to complete the scoring.

At Spamount, Division One leaders Dergview Reserves were edged out 1-0 by NFC Kesh. In a tie of few chances, it was Dergview old boy Ryan Campbell who made the difference when after just 10 minutes he was in the right place at the right time to fire home.

Beragh Swifts also bowed out despite dominating against Bangor YM. Wes Ferguson’s team travelled without four regular attackers due to Covid issues and a combination of poor finishing and an inspired display by Bangor stopper Kurtis Kane ultimately proved their undoing.

Late goals by Brent Howell and Michael Lemon sealed a 2-0 win for the hosts.

Elsewhere two Eoin McManus goals helped Enniskillen Rangers defeat Beann Mhadaghain 2-1 after extra-time while a Brendan Lilley hat-trick inspired Enniskillen Town to a 6-1 win over Tullymore.
