Sion Swifts Ladies will bid to reach the Electric Ireland Irish Cup Final for only the second time in the club’s history when they take on Crusaders in a semi-final showdown at Mill Meadow Castledawson tomorrow (Friday) evening.
Sion captured the prestigious silverware when they defeated Newry Ladies 2-0 in the 2017 showpiece decider at The National Stadium, Belfast.
Much though has changed since then. The goal scorer of both goals that glorious evening was skipper Kendra McMullan who has since retired from the game and the club itself has gone through a period of real transition after just missing out on the 2019 Premiership on goal difference.
Sion also had a poor start to their current league campaign but they have improved throughout the course of the season and are sitting fourth in the table after last night’s (Wednesday) results.
Tony McGinley’s improving team take a Crues side which has all but secured a top three league finish at the Moyola Park venue and needless to say the north Tyrone outfit will have to pull out all the stops if they are to advance to the decider.
En route to the last four, Sion recorded impressive wins over Killen Rangers and Mid Ulster Ladies.
The other semi-final brings together Glentoran Women and Cliftonville Ladies at Clandeboye Park, Bangor.
Both ties kick off at 7.30pm.
