Sion star relishing glamour friendly against England

SION Swifts’ sister act Kirsty and Caitlin McGuinness are relishing the opportunity to play against England later his month.

Kenny Shiels’ Northern Ireland team will play the Lionesses behind closed doors at St George’s Park, the FA’s National Training Centre, on Tuesday, February 23 in preparation for their forthcoming UEFA Women’s play-off in April.

Shiels insists the glamour friendly will be ideal preparation for the girls in green and Kirsty McGuinness, who along with her sister Caitlin joined Sion from Linfield last season, said she was looking forward to playing the sixth ranked team in the world.

“Definitely, they are one of the best in the world and it’ll be such an experience. The whole team is looking forward to it,” she said.

“We’re going to be playing against a top team no matter who we are drawn against (in the UEFA play-offs) and this will be the perfect preparation for it.

“If you want to be the best you have got to beat the best. England are one of the best in the world and we’ll go out and see how we get on against them. We’ll see how we measure up and where we are at.”
