Sion Swifts Ladies rocked by McGinley’s shock resignation

SION Swifts Ladies has been rocked by the shock resignation of manager Tony McGinley.

On Thursday the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership club confirmed the departure of the club stalwart and his assistant Shearnan McCay,

A statement on the club’s Facebook said, “The management committee of Sion Swifts Ladies and Girls FC regrettably announce the resignation of our Senior Manager Tony McGinley and Assistant Coach Shearnan McCay. The committee wish Tony, Shearnan and their families every success in the future.”

Under McGinley, Sion contested the League Cup Final, reached the last of the Irish Cup and finished in the top four of the Premiership last season.

While McGinley refused to comment about his unexpected departure, wearetyrone understands that a coup within the club appears to be behind his decision to call it a day.

The fallout from the events leading to the manager’s resignation has rocked the club to its core.

The timing, too, is far from ideal with one well-placed source claiming that events of recent days could potentially put Sion’s top-flight status at risk!

New criteria to play in next season Women’s Premiership means that the facilities at Melvin Sports Complex no longer meet the required standard.

Sion had been exploring the possibility of playing their home games at Dergview’s Darragh Park next season, with Brandywell Stadium also an option. Whether either will be required now appears to be in some doubt.
