HAVING given his players a week off in the middle of pre-season, Nigel Boyd and his Ardstraw team are building towards the start of the new sesaon which kicks off with a North West Senior Cup tie at Portstewart at the end of the month.
The North Tyrone outfit visit the accomplished Premier Intermediate League side on Saturday, September 26 with the winner going on to play Danske Bank Premiership side, Coleraine the following Tuesday evening.
It’s been a long pre-season for Ardstraw who thus far have confirmed three new signings. Boyd has secured the services of Calvin McKinley, who had been at Fermanagh and Western League side Beragh Swifts and the Strabane pair of Aaron Brennan and Eamon McGrath. McGrath joins from Glebe United while Brennan was last on the books of Strabane Athletic.
Boyd believes all three will be good additions and will compensate for the loss of striker Robbie Godfrey, who at 37 has decided to step away from intermediate football and Jamie Adams and Kristian Gibson, who left Ardstraw for Tobermore United and Newbuildings respectively back in January.
