Five-star Derg advance to face Bannsiders

Dergview……………………………..5
Maiden City…………………………0

A FEW of Dergview’s walking wounded returned to action on Tuesday  evening as Ivan Sproule’s charges brushed aside the challenge of  Northern Ireland Intermediate League side Maiden City to set up a semi-final showdown with Coleraine at the Ballycastle showgrounds on Saturday.

Andrew Sproule played a full 90 minutes and striker Sean McCarron came off the bench as a splendid brace by Mattie Kirk and goals by Adam Buchanan, Niall McGinley and Lee McNulty secured a convincing victory.

It’s been a badly disrupted pre-season for the Darragh Park outfit and while they still have as many as five players missing through injury, this performance, coming on the back of a decent display against Glenavon on Saturday,
suggests that things are beginning to fall into place.

Against Maiden City, who themselves have impressed in pre-season, Dergview were at it from the word go and Sproule’s charges raced into a 2-0 goal lead.

Adam Buchanan, playing at right-back, fired home the first from18 yards following a corner kick before the impressive Kirk charged down an attempted clearance by City keeper Gareth Muldoon to make it 2-0.
