Six local school teams; Roan St Patrick’s Eglish, St Johns Moy, St Patrick’s Donaghmore, St Colmcilles Carrickmore, Blessed Patrick O’Loughran Castlecaufield and St Mary’s Killyclogher qualified for the Tyrone Cumann Na mBunscol hurling finals, which were held in The Station Centre, Omagh.
Each school had five group games after which four teams qualified for the semi-finals. Carrickmore St Colmcilles were undefeated in the group stages to top the group and faced Blessed Patrick O’Loughran in the semi-finals with neighbours St Johns Ps Moy and St Patrick’s Ps Roan Eglish meeting in the other semi-final.
After a competitive game St Colmcilles advanced to the final while a very close encounter between St John’s Moy and St Patrick’s Eglish, the Roan lads also made the decider, beating Moy two goals to one.
With the group game resulting in a Carrickmore victory three goals to two after Eglish taking a two goals to nil lead a keenly contested final was expected.
St Patrick’s started the stronger and took the lead early on but back came the Carrickmore lads with a fantastic performance to come out on top five goals to one which completed a unique double for St Colmcilles as their camogie team had also won the Tyrone Cumann Na mBunscol Camogie title two weeks ago both teams now look forward to playing in the Allianz Cumann Na mBunscol Ulster Finals in Magherafelt.
