NICOLE McMillan surprised herself during her first every strongwoman competition recently.
The Strabane woman entered the Total Strength Ireland novice open weight event in a bid to dip her toe into the waters of the sport, but she never expected it to go quite as well as it did.
Not only did she win the event, she also set personal bests in every event.
The former Holy Cross College pupil won the log press with a 2kg of 60kg, which she followed by smashing her previous record in the 140kg car deadlift. Having only managed six reps before, she managed 14 on this occasion.
With her confidence growing, her performance improved with victory in the Farmer’s Carry, with 65kg in each hand to post a new PB of 19.5 seconds – her previous best was 30 seconds.
