Successful Tyrone and Fermanagh Championships for Two Castles

NEWTOWNSTEWART’S Two Castles Boxing Club hosted the 2022 Tyrone and Fermanagh Boxing Championships on Saturday, January 15th.

The host club earned nine gold medals with Eoghan Millar, Ronan McBrearty, Conan McSorley, Meehal McGrath, Tom Stokes, Daithi McNamee, Cahir Conway and Cain Logue all having walkovers. Rian Devlin had a contest and emerged a unanimous decision winner against an aggressive opponent from Enniskillen.

A number of special contests and test matches were organised for the boys with young Timothy Joyce first up and boxing really well on his first time in the ring against another young novice from Carrickmore, CJ Cambell. Both boys were brilliant.

Daithi McNamee had a contest against All-Ireland silver medallist Taylor Parke from Raphoe. Daithi performed very well to gain the nod from all three judges.

Dungloe, Co Donegal provided the opposition in test matches for Conan McSorley, Meehal McGrath, Tom Joyce and club debutant Cahir Conway.

Coaches were really happy with all the boys performances, giving them much needed experience. Opposition included All-Ireland silver medal winner David Tennyson, Odhran McCollie and Leo O’Donnell.

Cain Logue also mace his return to action with a good performance against Edenery’s Charlie McNulty.

All in all a great Championship. Thanks to St Eugene’s Hall committee, Tyrone County Board, all the Clubs, tea ladies and anyone who helped in any way. And the most important people, the young boxers.
