Dungannon Swifts..2
Coleraine…0
By Tommy Nethery
Dungannon Swifts recorded their second win of the season at Stangmore Park this evening.
Goals by Michael Carvill and Rhyss Campbell secured a precious win over Coleraine to move Kris Lindsay’s men up to eighth in the table.
At times the home side had to dig deep against the Bannsiders but they defended stoutly especially in the second half before Campbell netted the clinching goal with 10 minutes remaining.
At half-time everything appeared to be going according to plan for Swifts.
Lindsay’s side had matched their opponents stride for stride and had established a slender advantage thanks to the experienced Carvill.
Just 15 minutes in Daniel Hughes created space on the edge of the area and Carvill swept a low shot inside the base of Gareth Deane’s left upright.
For the remainder of the half both sides created bits and pieces with Coleraine striker James McLaughlin steering a Jamie Glackin cross past a post before the same player had a shot charged down.
The visitors too appeared to have strong claims for a penalty when Aaron Traynor went down in the box but the referee booked the Coleraine player for diving.
Oran Kearney’s men showed early intent on the resumption of the second half with Jamie Glackin having an effort cleared off the line by Callum Byers before home keeper Johnston saved an Aaron Jarvis snap shot.
Glackin then headed wide from a Traynor cross as the visitors attempted to crank things up.
Shortly afterwards Johnston saved a header from substitute Stewart Nixon before Campbell grabbed a second for the hosts.
A speculative effort by Hughes came off the crossbar, Shane McGinty retrieved the ball and picked out Carvill who touched it to Campbell to finish.
