ACL DIVISION 3B PLAYOFF
Tattyreagh 2-17 Urney 3-11
TATTYREAGH are only sixty minutes away from securing promotion to Division 3A after they got the better of Urney in a cracking relegation playoff encounter at Newtownstewart on Sunday afternoon.
Both sides deserve immense credit for serving up an outstanding spectacle that swayed one way and then the other and in the end it required extra time to decide.
It was Tattyreagh who eventually came out on top against a gallant Urney side and their reward is a meeting with Augher this Saturday in Beragh with the winners competing in Division 3A in 2026.
Impressive Tattyreagh midfielder Joe Cartin bagged the opening goal after only seven minutes on a day when Urney badly missed the services of his opposite number Anthony Crossan who lined out for Eire Og in the Senior Hurling Championship Final.
Keelan McDonagh, Gareth Mimnagh and Peadar Mullan had Tattyreagh points with Conor McDaid converting four frees for Urney while Sean Hughes had a point from play and a Danny Lynch goal had them well in contention at halftime, 1-7 to 1-5.
Adrian Maxwell and Ryan Henry swapped points with McDonagh on the restart as things remained tight. Ronan Collins and Jamie McAleer had points for their respective sides before a McDonagh goal in the 53rd minute put Tattyreagh four in front.
It looked to be a decisive score but credit to Urney for refusing to throw in the towel and a Hughes goal gave them hope before McAleer raised a white flag to send the contest to extra time.
In extra time Tattyreagh enjoyed more possession and were composed on the ball and ultimately they took the chances that came their way in the second period.
They moved four clear thanks to efforts from McDonagh and Stevie Gervin and while Urney got a third goal via McAleer their brave effort on the day just came up short.
The winners were best served by Andrew Allen, Aidan Martin and Ger McElholm in defence, Cartin in midfield McDonagh and Collins up front.
