Tummery confirm appeal against Mulhern Cup explusion

Tummery Athletic have confirmed they are challenging the decision of the Fermanagh and Western FA to expel them from this year’s Mulhern Cup.

The holders were thrown out of the competition after the organising committee upheld a protest by first round opponents Derrychara United.

United protested that Tummery had used four substitutes instead of the regulation three and the F&W agreed that the Dromore side had indeed broken the competition rules.

In confirming that they had lodged an appeal with the IFA, a source at the club again flagged up the fact that on the day the match official had informed both clubs that they were allowed to use a fourth substitute in extra-time.

The appeal was not unexpected. Following Monday’s night F&W hearing association secretary Neil Jardine said, “We were told by both parties that if they lost, they would appeal.

“Tummery have already checked out what the position is for an appeal, so we’ll expect to see that within the next couple of days.”

With the next round of the Mulhern Cup scheduled to take place on March 5, as it stands Derrychara will play the winners of this weekend’s game between Mountjoy and Maguiresbridge.

If Tummery’s appeal isn’t heard before that all second round matches will go ahead with the exception of the Tummery/Derrychara versus Mountjoy/Maguiresbridge tie.
