Ward registers first victory in nearly a year

ADAM Ward picked up his first win in almost a year at the Lakeland GP in Fermanagh on Sunday.

The Dunamanagh man last raised his hands while crossing the line last summer, also in the Enniskillen area, when victorious in the Lady of the Lake race. Despite producing good performances since then in training and in competition, the 20-year-old had been unable to seal a win until now, much to his ‘relief’.

“It was relief more than anything! I knew I had it in me but I just needed that win to settle the head a bit,” explained the former national junior road race champion, who has been surprised at the pace of racing in Northern Ireland this season.

He continued: “I know looking at my training and my numbers I should be going well but I don’t really take it for granted until I have my hands in the air. I need a bit of solid proof that I have got it in me.
