Water break was timely for Carmen

A SECOND-HALF water break was a decisive factor in Carrickmore’s late comeback against Dungannon, according to their assistant manager Noel Hurson.

Carmen scored five points without reply in the final quarter to snatch a draw, but for much of the contest they looked a distinct second-best against a physically powerful Dungannon side.

Not only that, but the Carrickmore supporters were incensed when two players from each team were dismissed following a brawl midway through the second-half.

It was clear to anyone with working ears that they felt that they were wronged by the decision, with only one player – Carrickmore’s Oisin McElroy needing serious medical attention when the dust settled.

But the water break shortly afterwards allowed Carrickmore to settle their heads, and they summoned an impressive late comeback and looked the more likely victors by the time the final whistle was blown a minute into injury time.

Assistant manager Noel Hurson was pleased by the fortitude displayed by his players in snatching a draw when defeat was on the cards for the vast majority of the contest.
“I think our lads showed great character in the last 15 minutes,” he said.

“The water break probably happened at a good time for us, we got settled and we took control of the game with a few unanswered points.

This afternoon Carrickmore face old foes Errigal Ciaran and Hurson added, “We’ve Errigal next, they’ve been rivals of ours for a long time but we’ll see how it goes.”
