DUNGANNON-BASED company, Mallaghan, a leading manufacturer of airport ground support equipment, has raised an impressive £2,310 for local charity, Kindness of Strangers following its annual Cars and Coffee event.

The fundraiser saw Mallaghan welcome both staff and members of the local community to its Dungannon headquarters, where they enjoyed a unique display of over 100 vintage cars.

Nigel Boyd, a Social Committee member at Mallaghan explained, “Following the success of last year’s Cars and Coffee event, we were thrilled to once again welcome our colleagues and members of the local community to what was a very enjoyable day for all.

“Supporting local charitable causes is important to us at Mallaghan, and it is wonderful to have raised over £2,000 for Kindness of Strangers.

AN Omagh supermarket worker has been praised by her colleagues after paying for a customer’s shopping.

Pamela Moane, Asda Omagh service section leader, had been working at the tills when she noticed a customer in distress after forgetting her purse.

She was starting to put some items back when Pamela rushed over and offered to pay for her full shop.

The customer was extremely grateful for Pamela’s act of kindness, and she later returned to the store to pay her back, along with a card to say thank you.

Pamela said, “I noticed the customer looked worried at the checkouts and when I realised she had forgotten her purse, I didn’t want her to leave the store without getting what she needed.

“It’s really nice to be there for our customers whenever they need it, and I was more than happy to help!”

Stephen Cox, service section manager at Asda Omagh, said, “Pamela is a fantastic colleague at Asda Omagh, she always goes above and beyond for our customers.

“When I heard what happened, I was not surprised at all. Pamela would always do what she can to put the customer first. Thank you, Pamela!”

Kind-hearted sisters help other kids this Christmas

TWO Ballymagorry sisters are helping to spread a little love this Christmas by collecting toys for other local children who have lost parents during the year.

A few months ago Abbey Gale and Destiny McGarrigle embarked on a fund-raising initiative to get money to buy toys for other youngsters.

In particular the kind-hearted siblings wanted to purchase items for children who may have lost a parent during the year. The sisters lost their daddy back in 2015 so have some idea of what these children will be going through. Destiny (aged 10) and Abbey Gale (aged 8) held a number of raffles during the last few months to raise funds for their appeal.

They also received support from Kayleigh’s Candy Facebook page which organised a raffle and used the proceeds to buy toys to donate on behalf of Destiny and Abbey Gale.

They girls handed the toys over to the Kindness of Strangers shop in Strabane just before lockdown and the charity will now start to distribute them to local children.

With lots of experience of taking part in beauty pageants the girls have now entered the Miss Shining Light competition. This particular pageant aims to raise awareness of mental health.

This year the Miss Shining Light Pageant is fundraising for the Foyle Search and Rescue, and this will be the next big focus for Abbey Gale and Destiny. The sisters will raise funds for the charity throughout next year before taking part in the final of the competition next September in the Everglades Hotel.
