A NEW initiative by the Church of the Immaculate Conception Restoration Team is inviting amateur shutterbugs to document the building in a new photographic competition.
This is the latest in a series of events celebrating the church, over a century old, as part of the Sacred Treasures – Restoring, Illuminating, Cataloguing and maintaining project. The project has seen the team involved a series of maintenance and restoration undertakings to maintain the church building, including new lighting inside and out, a museum documenting the history and items within the church. Future work on the church will see the stained glass windows and stonework within the beautiful place of worship restored to its former glory.
The work has seen the Restoration Team win numerous awards for their efforts, most recently a Heritage Angel Award for ‘Best Maintenance of a Historic Building or Place.’
Now, photographers are being invited to submit original photographs of the church, whether they are inside or outside and of any building aspect, be it the stonework, windows, Stations of the Cross, baptismal font or any other of the building’s beautiful features.
The competition is open to all amateur photographers and closing date is May 31 at 5pm. Judging will take place the following Friday (June 7) and the winners will be announced on the Church of the Immaculate Conception’s Facebook page with the best ten mounted and locally displayed. Of course no competition is complete without prizes with ‘In Strabane’ vouchers going to the top three, £50 for first, £30 for second and £20 for third.
So, anyone with a keen eye for ecclesiastical photography is now urged to get snapping before the deadline. Entries, including name and telephone number can be emailed to churchphotos@camusheritage.com.
