AT St Conor’s Primary School and Nursery Unit, ‘the children are highly motivated to achieve the highest standards’, as stated in the recent ETI Inspection report.
We believe that prospective parents need to have confidence in the setting they choose for their child; a confidence that stems from seeing, knowing and understanding what happens there, first-hand.
However, in light of the current pandemic and the Covid-19 restrictions, we are unable to welcome prospective parents to an Open Day in the traditional way.
Instead, we are currently putting together a virtual tour, highlighting our core values and the important areas of school life, which can be accessed from our school website (www.stconorspsomagh.com) from Friday, December 18, 2020.
Should you require any further information or clarification on any issue, do not hesitate to contact the principal, Mrs Katrina McGettigan 028 82244683 and she will be glad to help.
WHY CHOOSE ST CONOR’S?
St Conor’s is a thriving Catholic, co-educational school offering education for more than 450 children, aged from 3-11 years. The Nursery Unit on-site offers a dual day, and caters for 52 pupils.
The school also has a full-time learning support teacher to meet the needs of children who may struggle with aspects of their learning at any point in their journey through the school.
‘OUTSTANDING’
Following a recent ETI inspection, the achievements and standards attained by pupils at the nursery and primary school were found to be ‘outstanding’.
Mrs McGettigan said, “At St Conor’s we work in close partnerships with parents, keeping them fully informed of their child’s progress. “We are a very open and welcoming school, and we value the ideas and opinions of others. The commitment of the staff, the pastoral care and the quality of teaching and learning in the school are all excellent.
Above all though, we strive to make our school a very happy place for our pupils – in the knowledge that children learn best when they are happy, and fully-engaged in their learning.
AN INCLUSIVE SCHOOL
St Conor’s is recognised for being an ‘inclusive school’, and has been awarded the ‘Inclusion Quality Mark UK’ for excellence in this area. Respect for each other’s cultural inheritance, diversity of language and beliefs permeate the school and the staff recognise the individual needs of each child.
According to St Conor’s recent
IQM Report, received in May 2018, “The children who attend the school are proud to belong to their inclusive school. “They are valued for being who they are, and are supported in any area in which they may be challenged so that they can overcome barriers to learning.
“There is a determination to ensure that all children can succeed. There is a strong inclusion ethos, based on the need for continual improvement and striving for the best outcomes for children.”
Providing high quality education, founded on Catholic principles, the school has high expectations of behaviour and achievement in all areas, and for all children.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR DIMENSION
The staff celebrates and develops the uniqueness and talents of all children, offering a wide range of curricular and after-school activities including: Gaelic; music; netball; chess; Spanish; dance; gardening; ICT; and drama.
The school prides itself in its sporting tradition and high quality music and drama provision for all classes.
The children are involved in musical productions; they compete in the local Feis, and other musical competitions; and have achieved many awards for success in this area.
EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES
The school has achieved the Eco- Schools ‘Green Flag’ for the second time, and has been awarded ‘International school’ status for its careful preparation of pupils for life as global citizens.
St Conor’s is also engaging in a cross-phase programme, aimed at benefiting its pupils by fostering meaningful links with local post-primary schools, and the school is alsp part of the Whole School Nurturing Approaches (WSNA) initiative.
WRAP-AROUND-CARE
As well has having Gortrush Sure Start on-site at St Conor’s, a new ‘wrap-around-care facility’, known as ‘St Conor’s Play Zone’ is also on-site, providing reliable, professional childcare before and after the school day, as well as during holiday periods, under the management of Melanie O’Kane from ‘Cornabracken Child Care’.
